A unique tasting event

and café chantant

On Saturday 12 December 2009 The House of Gueuze organises in the pub 'In de Verzekering tegen de Grote Dorst' (In the Insurance against Large Thirst) the second Day of the Lambic. The theme is the art of brewing lambic and the arts surrounding the lambic culture. In lambico artes.

Most people don't not know anymore what lambic is. Therefore, we want to put the oldest (still existing) beer in the world in the spotlight. Not that long ago, there were only beers of spontaneous fermentation. Lagers and high fermentation beers are of a much more recent date.

Lambic contains only four ingredients (wheat, barley, hops and water) and is the basic beer for the production of geuze, kriek and other spontaneous fermentation beers. More than 15 unblended lambics (joenk, old lambic, kriekenlambic,...) from 9 breweries (Boon, Cantillon, De Troch, 3 Fonteinen, Girardin, Lindemans, Mort Subite, Oud Beersel en Timmermans) will be presented. Lambic has become very rare in pubs. Therefore it is very unusual that one can taste so many genuine lambics in one place.

In addition, we will also present a world premiere: the Allagash Spontaneous, the result of an experiment that was carried out two years ago by Allagash Brewing from Portland, ME. Rob Tod, the founder of Allagash Brewing, will attend the event.

The tasting event starts at 3 p.m. and is being followed at 8 p.m. by the café chantant with composer-musician Fonny De Wulf and Peter Van de Vivere.

We hope to seeing you on 12 December in Eizeringen. If you want to take some lambic beers home with you, don't forget to place an order via www.thehouseofgueuze.be.

Gueuzy greetings,

Kurt & Yves Panneels
